Katy Luong

Founder & Creative Director

Katy Luong gained her Dance degree at the prestigious Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, London and then worked as a professional dancer in the UK and abroad. After training as a teacher at University of Central England, she took up the post as Head of Dance at a Birmingham Secondary school. As her career advanced, she worked as a Dance Consultant, training and supporting Primary and Secondary teachers across the city. Katy also worked as an Artist in Education for Birmingham Royal Ballet, leading inclusive workshops in schools and the community and supporting company dancers, taking their first steps into education.

How Groovy Little Movers Began

After becoming a parent herself, Katy’s interest shifted to the impact of music and movement in children’s early years. As she sought out educational dance and music resources for this, she saw a distinct gap in the market that she then set out to fill. Groovy Little Movers started in 2013 with private classes which were a huge success and in 2019 Katy started partnering with schools, to research and develop ideas further.

Katy’s Vision in Action

For the past 10 years, Katy has been creating and refining Groovy Little Movers. This fresh, fun educational experience is born out of her research and experience as a teacher, dancer, fitness instructor and a parent of 4 children. Katy is confident that the high quality, creative resources of Groovy Little Movers will deliver the EYFS objectives and impact children’s learning and development for life.

When I became a parent, I realised how powerful music and movement can be in shaping children’s early development. I couldn’t find the kind of resources I was looking for, so I created Groovy Little Movers. Ten years on, it’s grown into a fun, research-based programme that supports EYFS goals while giving children the confidence, joy and creativity they’ll carry for life.”
